Looking for a creative teacher gift? Check out these free printable teacher bookmarks. They have the words “because of you I have bloomed”. Your kiddos can color the bookmarks or add dried flowers to them. I loved collaborating with one of my favorite motherhood bloggers Kelly Oester on this design. Kelly is a mom of two boys, and a lover of holidays, and crafts. Make sure to give her a follow.
Download and Print the Teacher Appreciation Bookmark
First, you will need to download the free printable bookmarks. Go to the bottom of this blog post to snag them.
Print them on cardstock paper.
Cut out the bookmarks.
Coloring Bookmarks
Now it’s time to decorate the bookmarks. There are two versions of the bookmarks. The first set has hand-drawn flowers that kiddos can color in with crayons or markers.
Now you can add an optional ribbon. Hole punch a circle at the top. Cut a five-inch piece of ribbon. Feed the ribbon through the hole and tie a knot in it close to the top.
Pressed Flowers Bookmarks
The second bookmark option just has the wording.
If you don’t want to wait 5-6 days for the flowers to dry-pressed, you can press them in the microwave!
First, gather some flowers from the garden! Anything that involves going outside feels like an adventure and it made our final project feel so special.
Next, remove the turntable from your microwave so you can arrange the flowers. With a paper towel, gently pat dry any flowers that are wet or damp, then lay a new/dry paper towel down flat directly onto the turntable surface.
Arrange your flowers on top of the paper towel how you want them to be pressed. If you want the face of the flower pressed, laying them down face first works best. Be sure to smooth out all of the petals for a clean press!
Next, place another paper towel over the top of your arranged flowers. Then, place a heavy microwave-safe dish on top. We used our 8-inch glass Pyrex! No need to press down on the dish after placing it on top. The flowers will flatten completely in the microwave.
The time in the microwave will depend on the strength of your microwave, as well as the type of flowers you are pressing, so you will want to check on the flowers during the process.
We were able to place them in the microwave for 60 seconds before checking on them. To check on them, I removed the turntable and peeled back the top paper towel VERY gently, as some of the flower petals stuck to it. They were not totally dry so we placed them back in the microwave for 30 seconds. Then, again for 15 seconds. After a total of 1 minute and 45 seconds, our flowers were flat and mostly dried out! We didn’t enjoy the heated-up flower smell but to each their own!
We then removed the top paper towel completely and GENTLY! Next, we removed each flower, one by one, and placed them on a dinner plate for a few minutes to finish drying out completely.
They turned out beautifully and the whole process took less than 10-15 minutes!!
Once you press your flowers, it’s time to add them to your bookmarks. Lay a piece of packing tape on the back. Lay the flowers on the bookmark. Once happy with the placement, add a piece of packing tape on the front. Trim excess. Now you can add an optional ribbon. Hole punch a circle at the top. Cut a five-inch piece of ribbon. Feed the ribbon through the hole and tie a knot in it close to the top.
